I was born and raised here in PEI. After high school, I went on to university, first at UPEI then to Dalhousie
where I eventually earned a BSc in Health Education. During this time I worked teaching gymnastics, and in group homes for
at-risk youth. In 1993 I moved to Vancouver where I worked managing an inner city school-aged child care centre. In 1998 I
returned to PEI and went back to university to complete my undergraduate degree. I worked at AIDS PEI for over three years
as the Education Coordinator, and went to UPEI part-time and received a Diploma in Public Administration. In 2005 I moved
to Fredericton where I completed a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology at UNB. In 2006 I began working for Career
Development Services in Charlottetown as a Career Counsellor, where I continue to work full-time. In November of 2007
I started my part-time private practice in mental health counselling.
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor
[CCC].
The mind-body connection is important to me in my personal life and in my practice. I take
a holistic approach to helping people, emphasizing self-care and education regarding mental health issues. I am also
currently studying holistic nutrition through the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition distance education program. I offer
a friendly, informal atmosphere where people can feel comfortable and safe to explore and work on what has brought them
to counselling.
Stress and anxiety are two of the most common issues I have seen people for in the past two years.
I have also worked with those suffering from depression, marital conflict, anger, work and career stress, as well as grief
and various life transitions. I believe that with a little guidance, support and facilitation, people have the strength
and wisdom within themselves to heal their wounds and ease their pain.
